Closing party/Glitter crutch

behindert und verrückt feiern Pride Parade

“We call ourselves ‘disabled and mad’ to reclaim these words. No more shame. No more fitting in. No quiet corners for us. We take up the space we need. We disrupt. We celebrate. We fight.”

The Disabled and Mad Pride Parade is a self-organized collective that hosts an annual parade for people with disabilities and experiences of crisis.

Behind the Pride stand people with and without disabilities, with and without psychiatric diagnoses, and their supporters. Every year, the Glitter Crutch is awarded there.

The Glitter Crutch is a negative award. This beautiful, shiny, glitter-covered trophy is not for everyone. It’s meant for associations, companies, institutions, laws, and individuals who have especially excelled in excluding or disadvantaging disabled and mad people.

This year, the Glitter Crutch was already awarded during the pride parade — but since there are just too many worthy candidates, we’re doing it again: a second Glitter Crutch will be given out at the festival’s big closing party!

Three entries will be selected from the pool of submissions already received, and the festival audience will be able to vote for them by booing or giving them the thumbs down – giving the audience twice as much to look forward to at the party and awards ceremony.

Come join us, celebrate, and vote on who really deserves this sparkling stain on their reputation!

The photo was taken at the behindert und verrückt Pride Parade. It shows a demonstration march led by a truck with a banner stretched across the front. The banner reads, in yellow and pink block letters: “behindert & verrückt - feiern bis zum Auffallen” (Disabled & crazy – celebrate until you stand out!). Behind it is a crowd of people wearing high-visibility vests and waving flags, among other things. A police car can be seen on the right-hand side of the picture.
